The Purge Route submitted by the BigN2Staff
Here is a route for those of you that like to spread the field and give your
team some options that will adjust the play to the defense. As with most
routes you would not have to spread the field this much to run the play.
However, I have drawn this play from our Super Trips close formation because I
like to get as many defenders away from the play side as possible and because I
like to have a good idea what the defense will be in. This formation cuts
down on the defensive formations you are likely to see considerably.
 | The primary receiver is the TE. After his delay on the DE he will
run a "Bounce Route" or an "Edge Route." This
colored circle symbol means he has the option to run either route depending
on how his man is covering him or what coverage the defense is in. |
 | Although he is not the primary the Slot Back that went in motion has a
very important route. He is going to drag the middle fishing for a
blitz. If either of the backers blitz he needs to be ready for the Qb to
dump the ball off to him. Here is some leeway for
interpretation. If no backer blitzes you may want the Slot to run a
deep route or continue to drag across the field. If a team only has
one LB you may want him to look for a blitz early in the route. If no
blitz comes your slot can run a short post. This can force the LB to
drop further and can put more pressure on a zone. |
 | The Flanker on the left runs a deep comeback route. He is basically
the last read but if everyone is covered there is a good chance that an
alley to him is open. |
I like this play for several reasons:
- It forces the defense to cover several receivers.
- There are sever blitz breaker options employed.
- The QB can concentrate on one side of the ball.
- There are easy options that adjust the play to coverage.
- Most of the routes are short and do not take much time.
- It isolates several of the opponents players.
There are many complimentary plays to this play including the Zoom
Option. I plan to add some more soon. Email me and let me know what
you think of this play or just to talk some X's and O's.
