Mid I 75 Swing This route is completed behind the L.O.S. this allows the blocks by the slot back and the split end. The slot will seal the LB to the inside as he scrapes to cover the TB on the swing route. The split end will seal any player covering the slot back. The Fullback goes in motion prior to the snap. This will help to pull the secondary away from the play. Many defenses will allow you to pull a lineman to block the corner. However, the corner usually takes himself out of the play early and spends time recovering. Even with a good recovery the CB will have to make a good one on one tackle on the TB if everyone gets their blocks and you choose not to pull the guard or tackle.
Mid I 213 Swing Read This is a more complicated swing route. Here the QB will fake the dive before the drop. It also gives the QB more options. If the middle clears out the Fullback should be open after the read on the swing. If both the swing and the middle are covered the QB has the final option to pass to the TE on the delay screen to the left. The Linemen that are blocking both for the pass and the screen must understand that blocking for the pass comes first on this play. This is an easy play for the QB to run and gives him several options. This keeps the offense from wasting a play if the defense adjusts to stop the swing.
